Internet People -- Too much to type .com

This is just a random thought that I had recently.

It seems for some reason, the human mind is either too lazy or I don't know what-- but we can not type the end of a domain anymore.

I'll try explain this in a minute.  First, I'll admit I'm guilty of this.  I blame Google Chrome!  They started the most brilliant thing ever, which was make the address bar work without having to complete anything in it.  Automatically assuming you want to go to a Google search if you just typed it in blank.


You start up Chrome, type in your query, and you are taken where you want to go.  If you typed mickeymouse, you will be taken to either pictures or something disney related. 

For fun I like to read referrer logs and see what search query's people type to get to a site.  After watching logs for a while I just thought about it and can see the appeal in having someone redirect you, simply because you don't want to type .com :)


If we want to go to expedia, we'll actually open up google, and enter that as the search parameter.  We're then redirected.

It seems so simple.  But I think it shows the usefulness and ability of "search engines" to take on bigger roles and do more things.  They are now gateways to information.

I have watched the internet grow as I grew myself. 

Kids today don't realize the technological achievements needed to reach in order to obtain this global network of communication.  To them, the internet is a given.

With that in mind, they learn to look at it differently, use it more of a tool, rather than a new resource as it's been to some of us 80's kids. 

The explosion of the internet is still fairly young, and only in the last 3-5 years have we been so connected-- every mobile device with full internet browser multimedia capabilities.  Not too long ago we had a dot-matrix cell phone display that was praised as it made phone calls.


It's been a while that "google it" has become a phrase, and instantly understood that you should "google" something; perform an internet search on it.

Anyway, ultimately, it's incredible how convenient the "Address Bar" evolution has become and done for us. 

The future generations, those born in 2010s, will be surfing the internet by the end of the decade-- they are learning it now from their parents. 

I remember a long time ago, AOL Keywords were the biggest thing in advertising.  Having an AOL Keyword was more important than having a .com.  They were advertised on TV, and used in movie poster advertisments.

The Learning Channel & Kabulvision

This was a great week in news.

By news, I mean Daily Show + Colbert Report.  Which are my main source of news.

One of the funniest skits again with Asif mandi, was about TLC and the new show All American Muslim.


Started out great by mocking TLC, it's no longer a learning channel, but a channel about living with a bunch of kids and/or abusing them to fulfill parents' empty dreams.

Garden Of Life = FAIL

Seems that some old lady has gotten a hold of the "Garden Of Life" facebook password.

Using a company's web page to promote a personal message.

Asking for people to "pray" on the internet.

Poor management of company resources imho.

Too bad they make a great product, but are managed by people who have no idea how the internet works.
